“Hauptmann Sulzer, commander of the I./G.R. 161, led the Grenadiers at the focal point of Kampfgruppe Meiners. With his troops he launched several assaults against the fanatically defending units of the 18th Guards Division, which occupied the hilltop massif near Lugi. During this combat Hauptmann Sulzer was badly wounded by a headshot. He was awarded the Knight’s Cross for his dutiful actions near Lugi.”
