"For heroic service as a member of the Underwater Demolition Team in operations against the enemy Japanese forces during a daylight reconnaissance of the beaches of enemey-held Saipan Island, June 14, 1944. Cool and courageous in the face of heavy mortar, machine-gun and sniper fire which killed and wounded several team mates, HALL conducted a throrough three-hours survey, swimming within thirty yards of the beach and obtaining information of great value to the landing force. His gallant conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
