Besides his World War Two related decorations, Cornelis de Ruiter was also awarded the Officer Order of Orange Nassau with Swords, the Ereteken Orde en Vrede met gespen 1948 and 1949, the Officierskruis with number XXXV and was entitled to wear the green Commando Baret.

Has distinguished himself in action against the enemy by having joined completely voluntarily a British so-called Commando or other unit as early as 1942:
1e: having traveled from Brussels to Nijmegen on September 29th, 1944 and having performed there meritorious deeds during eight days,
2e: having landed on November 1st, 1944 with the first wave of landingcraft in the face of intense enemy machine gun fire at Vlissingen as Commander of the Dutch Commando Troop 4, at the same time having acted as auxiliary officer allocated to the overall commander landing forces.
Subsequently, after having received word that some enemy personell wished to surrender, having passed enemy lines accompanied by two men and having entered the enemey-occupied shipyard De Schelde where 15 prisoners of war were taken who supplied valuable information as to the presence of mines and the planned destruction of this shipyard and the vessel Willem Ruys which was still under construction.
