Biography

Maurice Penman joined the Royal Air Force and was promoted to Sergeant on qualifying as a Pilot, and as such was posted to No.150 Bomber Squadron in October 1942, being based and operating from Kirmington in Lincolnshire, and flying in Wellington bombers.
Post war, Penman remained in the service.

"Sergeant Penman joined the Squadron in October 1942, since when he has completed 28 operational sorties over Germany, Italy and Tunisia. He has always pressed home his attacks with great determination and courage and has achieved many excellent results. His constant devotion to duty, keenness and offensive spirit have been a fine example. On one occasion over Germany his aircraft received three direct hits and was badly damaged but with great skill and determination he brought the aircraft back after being three hours overdue."
