"Flight Lieutenant SMITH as Captain and Pilot of aircraft has completed an operational tour of 35 sorites during which he has been on trips to HAMBURG, FRANKFURT and DUSSELDORF as well as the objectives in occupied territory and on gardening operations.
At all times during his tour Flight Lieutenant SMITH has displayed skill, courage and determination to press on to the target, which has been en example to all members of the Squadron.
His photographic record shows that he has obtained nime aiming point photographs.
I consider that this fine record over a period of eleven months fully merits for this award of the D.F.C."
