Monument Boulder Mirns

The monument at the cemetery reminds the people of Mirns to the U.S. bomb that had to be thrown off on June 22, 1943 in a dogfight and near the cemetery has beaten a large stone from the ground.

The device that the bomb shed, was one of the 235 Flying Fortresses on their way to Hüls in Westphalia, with the mission to bomb the synthetic rubber industry. Above Koudum and Molkwerum two American bombers were attacked by fighters of the occupier. Six bombs fell on the northwestern shore of the Fluessen, five in the vicinity of Mirns and at Harich. Of this allied mission to Germany 23 machines did not return.
