Belgian War Graves Oud-Turnhout

The grave of Victor and Louis Van Bael is located in the old cemetery at the Sint-Bavo Church. These brothers were killed on September 27, 1944 in an accident involving ammunition left behind by retreating Germans. A week earlier, both had actively helped hide the American crew of the glider that had made an emergency landing in Corsendonk on its way to Son on September 19, 1944, as part of Operation Market Garden.
