Moluccan Monument Barneveld

Moluccan monument Barneveld

A monument has been placed in the center of Barneveld as a tribute to the first generation of Moluccans. The statue consists of three figures; a mother, her son and the grandson.
The monument marks 75 years of Moluccans in Barneveld. Around 1951 Moluccan professional soldiers and their families also came to live in Barneveld. These soldiers had served with the KNIL during the period of the Indonesian struggle for independence.
The temporary reception in the Netherlands turned out to be a long one. The Municipality of Barneveld wants to use the image to indicate that the Moluccan community in Barneveld has become an indispensable part of society.

The monument was designed by Lotta Blokker.
