Memorial Edmond Thieffry

A small memorial plaque for Edmond Thieffry hangs on the facade of a garage in Generaal Lemanstraat, the text is only in French.

Translated :
"Here was born on September 28, 1892
Edmond Thieffry, hero and pioneer of Belgian aviation.
On January 24, 1917, the second of the four Belgian flags was dropped over this house during its flight over occupied Brussels"

Edmond Thieffry made history as a pilot during the First World War.
During dogfights, he shot down 10 enemy aircraft.
In addition, he was the first aviator to make a successful air connection between Belgium and the Belgian Congo in 1925.
