Miniature Tank Poelkapelle

In the centre of Poelkapelle next to the tank memorial is this miniature tank. During the Third battle of Ypres the English used tanks to break through the German lines.

On the 9th of October 1917 the English attacked with 12 tanks via Brugseweg coming from St Julien. The Damon II got stuck when turning onto the Houthulstweg. The Germans started to fire at the tank and hit it. After the war the tank was partially buried and it was decided to dig it up and bring it to the Marketplace on the other side. In 1941 the Germans took the tank away to use its metal.

To commemorate this a miniature tank has been placed next to the Tank memorial.
