Monument ‘Nova & Vetera’ Asperen

The monument ‘Nova & Vetera’ in Asperen (municipality of West Betuwe) is a memorial statue in memory of the victims of the Second World War. It was unveiled on 4 May 2018 by mayor Loes van Ruijven during the annual Remembrance Day, accompanied by the music of the fanfare Ad Astra.

The artwork consists of an iron statue of cut barbed wire, with a rainbow of plexiglass behind it on which a white dove of peace is depicted. The barbed wire refers to the fences around concentration camps, cut as a symbol of liberation. The rainbow and dove symbolize peace and freedom.
