This building was built in 1881 and used to house the primary school of the municipality of Heumen.
In the May days of 1940, this former school housed an aid post for the 3rd company 1st battalion 26th infantry regiment. Each regiment had its own aid post and these were located approximately 2 kilometres behind the front line.
Wounded people could be brought from the front line to this aid post. From this aid post, (seriously) wounded people could be taken to the first aid station in Wijchen by stretcher or patient transport.
