Memorial Maurice Derché

This plaque on the wall of his former home commemorates Maurice Derché, who was murdered by the Nazis in 1943. Derché was head of the Cannes Corps Franc de l'Armée Secrète (AS24). He was arrested in September 1943 after his name was found in documents seized during a raid on the bicycle shop of Léon Noël, also a member of the French Resistance. Maurice Derché died as a result of the torture he endured during interrogation by the Gestapo.

The plaque bears the following inscription:
“Maurice Derché, Victime de le barbaric Nazie habite cette Maison 1935-43”
(Maurice Derché, victim of Nazi barbarism, lived in this house from 1935 to 1943)
