This building, built in 1899, originally housed the first-grade public schools no. 5 and 32. It was later used as the Queen Emma School. During World War II, the Germans used the Queen Emma School on Passeerdersgracht for recruitment purposes. In January 1943, the resistance blew up the building in direct response. A week later, the occupiers executed eleven arrested civil servants in retaliation. After these events, recruitment efforts came to an almost complete standstill.
