Dutch War Graves (Rusthof)

This Cemetery is being managed by the municipality of the city of Amersfoort but is situated just within the area belonging to the neighboring municipality of Leusden (or Oud-Leusden). On this graveyard about 400 victims of the Second World War have been laid to rest.

There are approximately 150 dead with the Dutch nationality, mainly victims from Camp Amersfoort.

On the Cemetery are also the graves of Christian David van der Linden, who died in Bosnia in 1997, Menno Herbert Adriaen Lodders (Russia, 1992) and of Wolter Gijsbert van Thiel who died in Mali in 2015.

The Memorial for Lieutenant A. Vreeken is erected to commemorate the 1st Lieutenant of the 16th Regiment Infantry, who died on 11 May 1940.

The middle part of the memorial stone contains the names of 17 soldiers (including Vreeken) of the 16th Infantry Regiment who fell in the May days of 1940 and of 3 soldiers who died in captivity.

The Monument and grave is located at the 'Rusthof' cemetery not near the war graves but as a normal, private grave.
