Moltkebrücke Berlin

During the Battle of Berlin in April 1945, this bridge was at defended by 5,000 SS soldiers and Volkssturm militia. The bridge was barricaded on both sides, mined and defended by artillery and machine gun positions in the flanks. On 28 April 1945, the 150th Infantry Division and 171th Infantry Division began their assault on the Reichstag, but to archieve this goal they first needed to cross the Moltkebrücke.The bridge was blown up with little success by the German defenders and was still passable for infantry formations. During midnight, the bridge was captured by the Soviets and a bridgehead was established on the other side.
