War Memorial Cemetery Calais

This monument stands on the border between the civilian and military cemeteries. The text on the monument reads: ‘Godmothers of Remembrance. To the Heroes of the Great War 1914-1918, 1939-1945’.
The term Marraines du Souvenir refers to women who are committed to keeping the memory of the fallen alive, often by caring for the graves and organising commemorations.
