French War Graves Calais North

At the back of the northern urban cemetery there is an annex, the so-called Jardin de Souvenir, which contains a Belgian, two French and a German plot of honor. These were constructed by the French administration from 1922 onwards to collect the many dead who were interred at the various field lazarets. .

The French plots of honor include 301 fallen soldiers of both world wars, on the one hand the standard French war crosses and on the other hand the tombstones erected by the city of Calais.

Restored tombstones can sometimes cause confusion, such as this stele for the First World War with the dates of a fallen man from 1940.

Please note: The address provided is that of the entrance to the rear section of the cemetery where the war graves are located. It is not known whether this entrance is permanently open. The main entrance is located on Avenue Pierre de Coubertin (last photo), where there are also sufficient parking spaces.
