Received for his role as medic in the 80th infantry division during the Battle of the Bulge.
In Bastogne with a rifle company of the 318th infantry regiment who was to relieve the beleaguered 101st Airborne Broncho spotted a seriously wounded squad leader. Crawling 100 yards to the wounded man in direct sight of the enemy, Broncho gave him first aid and dragged him to safety. Returning, he found another wounded GI whom he treated even though his fingers were so numb in the sub-zero weather that he could hardly control them. His actions saved the lives of the two comrades.
