The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Raymond Globokar (NSN: 0-263980), United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in operations against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a carrier-based Navy Combat Plane in Composite Squadron FIVE (VC-5), attached to the U.S.S. KITKUN BAY (CVE-71), in action against enemy Japanese forces during the Battle off Samar on 25 October 1944. In the face of intense anti-aircraft fire which already had eliminated two planes in his formation, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Globokar fearlessly carried out an attack against major units of the enemy Fleet, consisting of battleships and cruisers, and personally scored four bomb hits amidships on a heavy cruiser, resulting in the explosion and subsequent sinking of this vessel. By his courage and skill as an airman, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Globokar aided greatly in forcing the strong Japanese force to break off their shelling of our defenseless escort carriers and destroyer escorts and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
