    Biography

    Robert Allison Shurter Jr. was the First Sergeant of Company D (Dog Company) of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR). He was born in April of 1921 in New York and was raised in Wilmington, Delaware. He was an original member of Dog Company and as such was involved in all of their well known operations, including the D-day jump into Normandy, Operation Market Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge. He was in the midst of earning his degree in Chemistry from the University of Delaware when he enlisted for service. He passed away in July of 1979 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
