Biography

Eighth in rank of highest scoring WW2 Soviet fighter-pilot aces. During the Second World War, Koldunov was expert in the tactics of hit-and-run from a dive with his Yak fighter. Most of his scores were made on the southern part of the Eastfront. He als was held responsible for the shooting down of three American Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters of the US 15th Air Force, in a mistaken identity dog-fight. After shooting down three of the Americans he flew beside the others to check the identity and found out that they were friendly planes.

Eventually twice hero of the Soviet Union. Supreme commander of the SOviet Air Forces during the late 70's and the 80's of the 20th century. Was eventually held responsible and was dismissed after the Western-German Mathia Rust succeeded to land with a Chessna Sportsplane in 1987 on the Red Square in Moscow.
