Info board 75 Years Liberation WWII Oud-Turnhout

In 2019 it was 75 years ago that Belgium was Liberated by the Allied forces.
In this context, Tourism Province of Antwerp organized various activities related to the Liberation in collaboration with Liberation Route Europe. Together with the participating cities and municipalities, a themed brochure with local stories supplemented with photos was made. Information boards were placed at some 50 historical locations, each with a local theme.

Topic Oud-Turnhout: De Liereman: Military training area for SS armored division.

From September 1943 to April 1944, part of the 12th Hitlerjugend SS Panzer Division stayed in Oud-Turnhout. After the Allied landing in Normandy, the young SS men will face the British 49th West Riding Infantry Division, which will liberate large parts of the Campine a few months later.
