Monument to the fallen of both world wars

At the cemetery of Vaux-sous-chèvremont is the monument that commemorates civilians and soldiers of the village who died during both World Wars.

Commemorated are;

DUMONT Adolph, age 43, a native of Vaux-sous-Chèvremont. He was executed by the barbarian German army on August 8, 1914 in the presence of his son Jean and bystander Jean Mosseux on the day of his 43rd anniversery ! See also the memorial cross at the site where he was executed.

NOIRFALISE Toussaint, age 22, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the 14th line regiment, died of wounds on August 24, 1918 in the field hospital at Vaux-soux-Chèvremont.

LEENAERTS Ernest, no further details known.

BAILLY Mathieu, 35, born at Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège, (A.F.L.), died of illness at the Laennec Hospital at Paris (France) on May 5, 1917.

HERMAN Gustave, age 39, from Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the artillerie de fortresse de Liège, (A.F.L.) of fort Chaudfontaine, died while interned at Putten (Netherlands) on April 8, 1918 of pulmonary tuberculosis.

LORQUET, no further details known.

FLAMAND Joseph, age 27, from Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, soldier with the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège (A.F.L.), died of wounds on August 19, 1914 at Angleur.

SOUGNEZ Gérard, no details known.

ÉLIAS Jules, no details known.

PAQUOT Jules, no details known.

MAT Guillaume, age 22, from Hoeilaart, soldier in the Artillerie de Fortresse de Liège (A.F.L.), killed on August 13, 1914 at Fort Chaudfontaine.

Also commemorated with a separate memorial plaque is Jules HENNEKINNE by the “Armée Secret” and the "Armée de la Libération. He was with the clandestine press and was arrested at the age of 72 and sent to Weimar-Buchenwald concentration camp where he died on June 21, 1944.
