During the Second World War, the Beauftragte für die Stadt Amsterdam and a German company were located in this building.
The Beauftragte des Reichskommissars (Chairman of the Reich Commissioners) was an administrative official, directly subordinate to the Reich Commissioner, who acted as a delegate in the provinces and in the cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Specifically, the Beauftragte oversaw public administration, German propaganda, and economic life. Provincial and municipal governments were always required to report their most important decisions to the Beauftragte. The Beauftragte often maintained close contact with the provincial commissioners.
Dr. Hans Böhmcker was the first Beauftragte des Reichskommissars für die Stadt Amsterdam. The second one was Werner Schröder.
