The barracks at Koudenhorn 2 in Haarlem were established in 1810 as military quarters in the former Orphanage and Deaconry House. From 1886 to 1897, it housed the Haarlem Military School, established as a temporary addition to the Royal Military Academy (KMA) in Breda.
From 1920 to 1940, it served as a garrison office, storage facility, and location for various military units. After the war, it was used as a detention camp for political offenders until 1946, resulting in the death of five people.
Later, the site was used by the anti-aircraft artillery, with mobilization activities around Fort Vijfhuizen. The artillery was disbanded in 1960. Ammunition was stored at Fort Spaarndam until around 1980.
The barracks remain largely intact and now serve as a police station. The building is a national monument.
