Biography

Farnes joined the RAFVR in April 1938 and was called up in July 1939 being posted to no 501 Squadron which he joined to France. During the Battle of France and Battle of Britain he downed 8 German aircraft.
During WW2 he also served on Malta and North Africa. His final posting was Iraq.
After the war he remained in the RAF and retired in 1958.
He then worked as a sales engineer follwed by the family merchants business and finally ran a family-owned hotel.
