Vuren Fortress

Vuren Fortress was part of the Dutch Water-line. It is build in 1844-1849 and later on it was expanded. There is also a group shelter on the fortress.

In the 1870-1871 and 1914-1918 wars the fortress was mobilized. It was also mobilized in 1940. The fortress was attacked by German planes in May 1940.

The Germans used the fortress throughout the war. After the war the fortress was used to lock up collaborators.

Nowadays the fortress is often open to the public.

In the fortress the WW2 & Aviators Museum Rivierenland is housed.
